Gymnastics Australia appoints Alexandra Ash as Chief Executive Officer

Gymnastics Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Alexandra Ash as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Alexandra joins Gymnastics Australia from her role as Executive General Manager at Y Victoria where she has led the Recreation portfolio, operating 83 facilities throughout Victoria, Tasmania, and South Australia including the leadership and operation of South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre, South Australia's premier state facility.

Not new to gymnastics, Alex has served as Deputy Chair of Gymnastics Victoria and as a Non-Executive Director since May 2019. She is also an Independent Appointed Director at Royal Lifesaving Society Australia. She resides in Melbourne with her husband and two small children.

In making the announcement, Gymnastics Australia President, Ben Heap, said “Alexandra’s energy and experience, and the leadership she has evidenced in her career to date, demonstrated to the Board that she is the right person to lead the sport, to continue our journey of transformational culture change and support the growth of gymnastics into the future.

“This is an important time for gymnastics in Australia, a time to embed the important work over recent years, and to set the path towards the Brisbane Olympics in 2032. Alexandra will be a passionate advocate and a collaborative leader, working to grow participation and give our athletes the best chance to reach their full potential.

“Alexandra will lead a strong Gymnastics Australia management team, collaborating with the Gymnastics Australia Board, and indeed boards and management at a state level as the sport of gymnastics continues to evolve,” Heap said.

In accepting the role, Alexandra said it was both an honour and a privilege to be appointed as the CEO of Gymnastics Australia.

“The sport is one that provides essential life skills of fundamental movement for children to that of inspiring and courageous athletes. I look forward to working with the gymnastics community and continuing the great work of the team. I thank the Board who are entrusting me to lead this amazing sport and to be part of its proud community.”

Alexandra will commence in her role as CEO on Monday, 6 June 2022.
